How it works

1. Complete the Application Documents
The first step in the process is completing all the necessary paperwork. Please follow the links below to see what forms need to be completed by the Client and Caregiver, respectively. Click here to view and download the documents
2. Arrange Pickup
Unfortunately, the State of Michigan doesn’t accept digitally signed documents. So, once you’ve completed and signed all of the forms by hand, give us a call (888-313-7829) and we can coordinate a pickup of all of the completed documents. Or, if it’s easier, we’ll send a prepaid envelope for you to mail back all completed forms to us.
3. We Submit the Documents to the MDHHS
Once we’ve received and reviewed said documents, we’ll fax them directly to the corresponding MDHHS office in the county that the Client resides.
4. Meet with the Caseworker
Once received by the MDHHS office, the State of Michigan has up to 45 business days to process and begin the application process. Once processed, a caseworker will be assigned to the Client’s case, and they’ll send a letter to the Client’s address letting them know when they will come by to meet with BOTH the client and caregiver. During this meeting, the MDHHS caseworker will be assessing the level of care needed by the client. If you happen to be unavailable on the day the Caseworker has scheduled, give us a call and we’ll help coordinate a new assessment date.
5. Get Approved
After the meeting, the Caseworker will make their decision and let us know when we can begin services, and how many hours the Caregiver is allowed to work each month.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. How much does this cost?
Applying and signing up are 100% FREE. We’ll help every step of the way with the application process, and once approved, we’ll bill the client’s Medicaid directly, just as their physician would. This service is a pre-existing benefit of all Michigan Medicaid recipients. It costs nothing and will not affect the Client’s current Medicaid coverage or any other benefits they’re currently receiving.
2. How do I sign up?
Check out our “How it works” section.
3. Can’t I do this directly through the State of Michigan? Why would I do this with you guys?
Yes, you can absolutely work directly with the State of Michigan, however:
* We pay more than the state does (State pays $15.88/hr and we pay $20.00/hr)
* We help with every step of the application process
* We process all of your invoices for you every month
* We handle correspondence with the caseworkers when possible
* We’re always available to answer any questions
4. How much does the state pay vs how much do you pay?
* State of Michigan pays $15.88/hr
* Caregiver Pay rate depends specifically on the client’s insurance provider:
* Straight Michigan Medicaid: up to $20/hr
* Molina Health Care of Michigan (Dual Enrolled Medicaid-Medicare ICO): up to $14/hr
* Aetna Better Health(Dual Enrolled Medicaid-Medicare ICO): up to $14/hr
5. How many hours can I work?
Approved hours and tasks are totally up to the discretion of your state assigned caseworker. After your application is submitted, a caseworker will schedule a time to meet with both the client and caregiver to assess the level of care needed for each individual client.
6. What sort of care tasks can I get paid to do?
* Eating
* Dressing
* Meal Preparation
* Toileting
* Transferring
* Shopping
* Bathing
* Mobility
* Laundry
* Grooming
* Taking Medications
* Housework
* And more!
7. How often do I get paid?
We pay our Caregivers once a month on the following month of service. Always on time. No excuses, no exceptions!
8. How old do I have to be?
Both the Caregivers and the Clients must be over the age of 18 to qualify.
9. Are there any restrictions to becoming a client or caregiver?
* Clients are only eligible if they have active full Medicaid coverage from the State of Michigan.
* Unfortunately, the State of Michigan prohibits Caregivers with any prior criminal felony convictions from working with an Agency such as ourselves. However, if you’ve had your record expunged or the incident is relatively old, we always recommend applying and letting the State decide. The application process is free and we’ll help you every step of the way.
10. Do I have to be related to the client to become a caregiver?
No, but we highly recommend choosing a caregiver you’re familiar with.
11. What if I’m married, can I still apply?
Yes, but you as the client will only be approved if your spouse can complete an employment verification form showing that they work a significant amount of hours and are unable to care for you during that time.
12. What insurances do you accept?
* Straight Michigan Medicaid
* Molina Health Care of Michigan (Dual Enrolled Medicaid-Medicare ICO)
* Aetna Better Health(Dual Enrolled Medicaid-Medicare ICO)
13. What hours do I work?
Our Caregivers are free to coordinate their own schedules with their Client as they see fit. As long as the client is happy and not being neglected, we’re happy.
14. How many caregivers can I have?
There is technically no limit, but we recommend 2 or less so that we can make sure your needs are adequately met.
15. What counties do you services?
We are approved to service the entire State of Michigan.
16. If I already work for another agency, can I work with you guys?
Yes, if you are working with another agency, we can facilitate an immediate switch whenever you’re ready. However, if you are working directly with the State of Michigan, there is a mandatory minimum waiting period of 90 days before both the client and caregiver can join our agency. Please call us for details on how we can help make this change.
Who’s Eligible?
- Medicaid-enrolled individuals needing daily care, including Medicaid-Medicare Dual-Enrolled individuals with Molina Health Care of Michigan and Aetna Better Health.
- Anyone can be a caregiver, often a family member already helping their loved ones.
- Caregiver and Client must be 18 years of age or older.
Example Cases:
Scenario 1:
Barbara is 72 and receives Medicaid. She lives with her son and his family because she needs assistance with daily living tasks such as meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, and grocery shopping. Her son, David, already provides this care for her, ensuring she stays safe and comfortable at home. David is an excellent candidate for our agency. We can provide him payment of at least $17/hr for the care he is already giving his mother.
Scenario 2:
Michael is 30 and recently underwent surgery that left him temporarily unable to perform everyday tasks like cooking, cleaning, and attending follow-up medical appointments. His sister, Lisa, steps in to help, ensuring he has nutritious meals, keeps up with his therapy exercises, and gets to his doctor’s appointments. Lisa is a great fit for our agency, as we can compensate her at least $17/hr for the assistance she’s already providing while Michael recovers.
